This week, we welcomed two travelers from Nicaragua, Carlos and Samira, who travel various countries doing an educational puppet theatre for children, teaching them about friendship and how to protect the environment.
The children showed much interest in these topics and participated with enthusiasm and joy.

We, the "escuela móvil" teachers, always gladly welcome new volunteers with a special program for the children, rendering more diversity to our every day work.

If you are interested in participating in our work, feel free to contact us here.

Taller de asertividad y empatía / assertiveness and empathy workshop

Our newest workshop was about assertiveness and empathy, the most important elements for a successful interpersonal communication.

To teach those values to the children, we watched two short animated videos. After that, the children had to do some exercises related to the topic, for example relating given character traits ("he does not care what people say about him", "others fear him" etc.) to the character of the dragon (agressive), the tortoise (passive) and the person (assertive).

In the sector of Llinfi we did another activity: the boys and girls had to find a partner and swap their jersey or shoes. Then they said how they felt, literally "in the shoes" of the other one.

Huertos familiares / Allotments

Our newest and current project which we are working on is called “huertos familiares” – like community allotments. Its main goal is to improve the families' eating habits and financial independence, as well as the childrens' sense of responsibility and self-reliance.

In five of the communities we work in, rather far from the city centre, we distributed certificated seeds of chard, radish, spinach, lettuce and carrots; as well as organic fertilizer and wire and barbed wire as protection from the chickens and pigs that some of the families own.
In order to establish the beds, we asked our “Escuela Móvil” kids or their families to clean a piece of their land from rubbish and weeds; if they could not provide any land, we asked them to use containers like old bathtubs, buckets etc.

We were excited to see that so many of the children embraced the idea from the start and actively helped in the establishment and maintenance of the beds.

This project will go on for a longer time, as we check every few weeks on the beds and will distribute more seeds if this first phase is successful.

Día del niño / Children's Day

Every year on April 20th, we, the Escuela Móvil (and practically the whole CERPI) celebrate the ‘día del niño’ – Children’s Day. And as our partner organization, [MOBILE SCHOOL] wants us to do something special with ‘our’ children, we could surprise them with fun games, sandwiches, lemonade and cake. This wouldn’t have been possible without the kind help of other volunteers from all over the world that came with us all the way to Llinfi that day.

But not only the Escuela Móvil prepared something for that special occasion; all at CERPI joined their forces to entertain the children with theater plays, dances and the obligatory refreshments.
